Photographing Horses in Beautiful Winter Scenes
February, 15, 2025 | Westcliffe, CO |
FOUR SPOTS LEFT!

It's Back! Have you ever wanted to capture images of horses running straight at you in a dramatic winter scene? How about a beautiful herd running free against a beautiful Colorado mountain skyline? Or capture the power and beauty of these animals as they're being expertly wrangled? Well, now is your chance. American Photo Treks has teamed up with Music Meadows horse ranch near Westcliffe, Colorado to check those magnificent images off your bucket list.

You’ll be strategically positioned to capture a herd of beautiful, multi-colored horses as they are wrangled by expert cowboys. The APT instructors will give you the necessary instruction in order to capture the images perfectly, then we will provide a post-production video so you can turn your favorite image into a living room showpiece.

BONUS! This year we are adding a post-processing session at the ranch where we will demonstrate some of Photoshop's new AI tools to create some truly unique equestrian images.

We are anticipating snow, based on the area and time for year, but as always, mother-nature is in charge.

FULL DAY OF AWESOME PHOTOGRAPHY

The day begins before sunrise.  We position a rider on the ridge and scan the horizon for beautiful western sunrise colors.  The sunrise images we've created over the years have been truly spectacular.

After capturing the sunrise, we turn toward the  beautiful alpine glow on the snow-capped peaks.

Then, it's time for breakfast in the ranch house.

After breakfast, while we wait for light to hit the valley, we provide a class on the best photography techniques and camera settings to capturing the running horses.  Then, a cowboy assists us with a couple practice passes to ensure we're ready take award-winning images.

Then, it's GO TIME! as the cowboys wrangle the herd in front of the snow-capped mountains, along the ridge and around the ranch, creating moment after moment of incredible photo opportunities.

After the horse run, it's time for lunch in the ranch house.  Elin always serves up something special made with Sangre's Best grass finished beef.

After lunch the photo opportunities continue in the beautifully staged barn.

Saddles, blankets and tack are on display in the horse barn.  Afternoon light beams into the barn through lead windows creating amazing light for western photography.

And, last, but certainly not least, the wranglers will pose in their authentic attire for some unique western portraits.

Bonus! - This year we're adding a short post-processing class in the ranch house, demonstrating how we tweak our images in Camera Raw to create images that   really pop.  There will also be a short demonstration of an AI program.
